Without warning, he stood, extending his hand.

Viv glanced at it, terrified to take it but more than willing to feel the heat of his skin against hers again. What would be the harm in one last affair? Even if it was pretend. How much loyalty did she hold to a fiancé she hated?

“If I do this…” Her breath fluttered in her lungs, tentative yet excited. “If I do this, that’s all it would be. An act…”

It was vital she established boundaries.

“We maintain a professional relationship between us, regardless of what others believe?”

She’d meant her words to sound confident, but they had come out more like a question.

The corner of his full lips bowed into a smile when she allowed him to take her hand. He flipped her wrist over and leaned down to sweep his lips across the back of her hand.

“But of course.”

A jolt of electricity shot up her arm.

“Strictly professional.”

She hated when men lied.
