Poetry Spotlight: David Russell on Mysterious Sensuality

Hi, readers! Now and then on the I Love Romance Blog, I recognize poets and their wonderful, romantic poems. Today David Russell has stopped by to showcase some of his work for us.

I love poetry, almost as much as I love romance! It is music for my eyes, and a song in my heart. 🙂

Honestly, I spend quite a bit of time stalking poetry groups on Facebook just to see what my fellow writers are doing these days. And our guest, David Russell, is one talented poet!

Thank you for visiting us. We’re so glad you came to the I Love Romance Blog, where we get to talk about my favorite subject – love!

Today, David Russell is providing everyone with his take on the theme of ‘mysterious sensuality’. How apropos, since every lasting romantic relationship I’ve ever read, heard about, or witnessed on the screen – I’ve experienced my own relationships firsthand as well, of course – began with a little mystery and some serious chemistry.

A Poem by David Russell

I Respond

First there was a fleeting glimpse

A flounce of grace,

A nod of acknowledgement,

A location

Across the void your eyes affirmed,

You beckoned from afar

Your magnet broke all resistance

I came into full view –

Responding desires

Your sinuous lip-curl proclaims

The splendid isolation of power

Toned form and brain

Elicit blind awe

Delicious loosening of blouse

Opens the doorway to glory

We spring face to face,

Our pulses radiating intellect and longing

Our sparring debate

We clinch with joint surrender.

The lips, channel of word-power

Go beyond words.

The atmosphere is close, you are sweating

Now, with your blouse aside

You have intrepidly thrown

The sensual gauntlet,

Tsunami overwhelming

The dykes of reticence –

Far more than ever by my hand

Now let my body

Burst full-formed

My shirt to fall upon your blouse

Our facing torsos

My body – now a winged imago,

Bursting from its Chrysalis –

Shall I be your Tsunami ebb-tide

Vaulting into its flood

See you before and after.

In the gym, in the pool,

In the tennis court –

Let’s tone ourselves for each other

Let’s tone each other for ourselves
