Every wallflower blooms at their own perfect time, but some like quirky Lo, take longer than others.

I am pleased to announce a cool book blog tour going on right now, presented by L.M.L. Gil, an author I met during my journey! Congratulations on your new adult sports romance with a coming of age theme! :)

When a new book comes out, it is always an exciting time for authors!

Plus, here at the I Love Romance Blog, we love discovering romance novels!

Let’s hear a little about this great book…

Nice!

This is the info for The Diary of a Late Bloomer:

THE DIARY OF A LATE BLOOMER – A quirky coming of age novel

by L.M.L. Gil

Release Date: June 29, 2020
Genres: Coming of Age, New Adult Romance, Sports

Blurb:

Lo is a sheltered 20-year-old who loves baking, manga/anime, and octopi. When she spots her college swim team’s tryout flyer sporting her favorite sea creature, an octopus, she knows it’s a sign that she must join. The only things standing her way are her socially awkward nature and that she just learned to swim.

Will Lo find her place to shine or will her social anxiety DQ her dreams?

Late Bloomer is a new adult novel that is a cross between Bridget Jones’s Diary, Baywatch and Kuragehime.

Intriguing cover!

Here is an excerpt.

Gah! So like a cat. (Laughs.)

Just kidding. Actually, I didn’t receive an excerpt from the tour sponsor… 😥 I hear there are some cool prizes, though.

PRAISE FOR THE DIARY OF A LATE BLOOMER

I could genuinely empathize with her extreme anxiety in social situations and her tendency to blame herself for anything going wrong around her also rang uncomfortably true. I’m totally on board with with her cure-all balm of baking too. There’s a lot of food in this novel so I would recommend having snacks on standby before you start reading! The in-person conversations are beautifully written, full of the hidden information that each character is too repressed to openly reveal about themselves. I happily rooted for Lo all the way through and was delighted to have taken a chance on Gil’s writing. I think this story would appeal to quirky young adult readers as well as, of course, those of us who’ve left those years behind but still retain our quirks!– Stephanie Jane, Literary Flits blog (Goodreads)

The characters were fascinating and the plot was fun. I don’t know if it’s a good thing or bad, but I connected to the main character on a deeper level as far as the sheltered lifestyle and taking care of siblings, and falling in love with the stable/mentor person in their life rather than the person who sucked the life out of them.
There’s also a sense of camaraderie among most of the characters and also shows how friendship can break and change which was very profound.
As a side note, I loved that the author mentioned the anime that the character was watching. I had watched all but one mentioned and I loved that. however. I wish that there was more explanation of those for those otakus/new otaku who have never watched the series.
I enjoyed this book so much. I recommend this for people who are looking for a college romance that involves camaraderie and food along with manga/anime, and would reread this again.”

Wow! ♥♥♥ I can just imagine this is quite a tale!😉

(Rapid knock on the studio door.)

(Marie frowns.) Who could that be? I’m not expecting a package or anything.

(Footsteps approaching.)

Oh, my! Wow, I didn’t know you were coming…

No excerpt? No problem! This is even better, readers. We have the author, L.M.L. Gil, who just dropped in for a quick visit. Let’s give her a warm welcome! 😀

It’s great to have you here, L.M.L. Please come and sit down for a sec.

Author L.M.L. Gil:  Hi, Marie! Thanks for letting me stop by.

Marie:  Of course, it’s my pleasure! So nice to meet you, by the way!

(Starts to shake hands with her guest, then laughs.)

Oops, that was out of habit. Almost forgot about social distancing. Bad Marie! 😮

Marie:  Damn, I left my hazmat suit at the cleaner’s and it’s not done yet…

All right, I’m just over here. Really, I don’t think you have cooties or anything. 😀

L.M.L.:  (Smiles.) Great to meet you too.

Marie:  Aww, thanks!

Well, I hope you don’t mind if I ask you a few questions while you’re here?

L.M.L.:  Sure, I’d love that! 🙂

Marie:  Awesome!

So, can you tell us a little about your background? When did your first book come out and where can we get it?

L.M.L.:  I’m a big dreamer, which has made me a jack of a lot of different trades. I have certificates in various random things (yoga, reiki, graphic design) and I have worked a lot of odd jobs. All these experiences have helped shape me and my writing. I believe that everything we experience has the potential to be great writing material.

The Diary of a Late Bloomer is my first book and I’m so excited about publishing it. You can find it on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, iTunes, and everywhere sell they sell E-books.

Marie: That’s fantastic! Congrats on your debut novel!

So, a lot of readers love origin stories. What exactly inspired you to start writing?

L.M.L.:  I have always been a writer at heart. When I was little, I would invent stories for my brother. He loved to hear about Betty the ant, a character I made up, and her adventures on the playground. There is something so amazing about captivating someone with a story.

I lived for my creative writing classes in college, but I never once thought that I could actually be a writer. It took nearly succumbing to pneumonia to make me realize that it is what I want to do for the rest of my life. I want to write stories that make my readers smile.

Marie:  Oh, I hear ya there…

How did you get into writing contemporary/new adult?

L.M.L.:  When I wrote The Diary of a Late Bloomer, I never really thought about the genre. It was just a story that I had to tell. All my stories are like that, which is why I like to write in different genres. I also enjoy experimenting between genres because each one has its own perks.

I am currently working on three different projects in separate genres and I am having fun playing with them: The Faerie Key is a millennial urban fantasy, Witness Purrtection is a cozy mystery, and Letters from a Late Rocker is a sequel to Late Bloomer.

The one thing I want all my stories to be is uplifting and fun. I want to make my readers feel happy while they are reading and after the book is done.

Marie:  Great!

You have a lot of projects going at the same time. Sounds a lot like me! (Chuckles.)

So, what, do you feel, sets The Diary of a Late Bloomer apart from other books in the genre?

L.M.L.:  I think ‘Late Bloomer’ stands out because it has a little of everything in it — romance, comedy, drama, music and sports — and it is also uplifting. It is an easy, fun read that would be great during a vacation, a staycation or whenever you need some fun.

Awesome!

(Phone rings.)

😥

Oh, no, it looks like our guest had to take an important personal call outside. I guess I’ll have to chat with her via email when I get a chance. A safer option for sure, at least in these uncertain times! 😕

But in the meantime, she’s given me permission to inform you of a great prize. Let’s find out the details, shall we?

Additionally, L.M.L. is giving away a wonderful prize package, comprised of a $40 Amazon gift card and an e-book of this title during the tour. Please use the Rafflecopter below to enter. You may find the tour schedule and locations here.

L.M.L.:  Oh no, I missed it. 😦 Sorry to run off like that.

Marie: It’s okay. I was just wrapping up things here. We’re getting short on time…

L.M.L.:  In that case, I’ll leave you with a brief message.

Author Bio:

L.M.L. Gil is a writer, a reader, and a dreamer.

When she is not writing, editing, or thinking about her next story, she is either in the kitchen testing out a new recipe or snuggling with her fur munchkins reading.

As a glutton, she equates a good novel to a scrumptious dessert, which leaves your heart a little lighter and a smile on your face.

She hopes her novels provide a sweet treat without the calories.
