Top Wedding Themes for 2021: a guest post by Janelle Urrutia

Top 2021 Wedding Themes

Your wedding is the most important day of your life and it’s vital to have everything turn out the way you’ve always dreamed of.

Choosing a wedding theme is more than just a color scheme – it influences your choice of decor, music, and of course, tells the love story between you and your partner. If you’re having difficulty choosing a wedding theme, you can get inspiration from the top wedding themes of 2021.

1. Movie-inspired wedding themes

Like most of us, you probably spent most of last year binge-watching classic movies. While not all of them would make the best wedding theme, having a Great Gatsby themed wedding would make your event unforgettable.

A Harry Potter themed wedding would be another great option if you both share a love of the franchise, and it makes seating arrangements easier since you can categorize your guests by Hogwart’s house.

Movie-inspired weddings allow for your fun and creative side to shine through during your ceremony.

2. Art-inspired wedding themes

If you’re both artists, what better way to show how much art is a fundamental part of your relationship than by having an art-inspired wedding theme? You could choose the color palette and general mood from your favorite painting, or you could go broader and be inspired by the periods of art themselves.

Go with bold lines and geometric decor for Cubism, or go with the decorative, industrial style of Art Deco. Reject tradition by going bright and bold with Modernism.

Choose a location that is special to you both, like the museum you had a date in, to really encapsulate this theme.

3. Seasonal themes

For a full circle moment, plan your wedding to be in the same season that you first met, had that first date, or the season he proposed to you. Each season has its own set of colors and themes traditionally associated with them, which you can use as the basis of your wedding theme.

Embrace winter with a white winter wonderland theme.

A vineyard wedding would look wonderful with the warm red, mustard, and orange colors of fall.

Spring calls for bright floral themes, while beach weddings adorned with sunflowers and tropical motifs are perfect in the summer.

The possibilities of a seasonally themed wedding are almost endless.

4. Vintage themed

Some of the best ideas come from times that have gone by. The aesthetics can be even more romantic and visually stunning that our current period lacks. For a graceful and elegant wedding theme, Ancient Greece is the best wedding theme to go with.

Green and gold are colors that complement that era and it would work well with a long, flowy wedding dress.

For a fun and bright wedding theme, channel the 50s with simple bold colors, shapely bust lines, and billowy skirts.

Remember to choose an era because it means something special to both you and your partner, and not just because you like how it looks.

5. Classic themes

The best part of going with a classic wedding theme is that they are timeless and easier to plan. There’s no need to brainstorm on how to make every part of your wedding adhere to a glamorous theme or concept. You can also be assured that your wedding photos are timeless images that will work well as centerpieces for your home. If you are the no-frills and no-fuss type of couple, then the classic white wedding theme is the one for you. It never goes out of style.

6. Modern and Contemporary Wedding Theme

Opposite the classic wedding themes are modern wedding themes. Modern wedding themes come in a variety of different styles to suit the tastes of every couple. You can have an industrial theme, which is great for couples who want a moody and metallic color scheme.

Steampunk type decor looks great in a loft, old factory, or warehouse venue.

Diversely, if you are a couple who prefers brighter colors and decor, then a modern, preppy wedding theme is your best bet.

Hopefully, these wedding themes inspired you to start thinking about how you want your wedding to look visually. Get creative with these themes to get something that’s uniquely yours, and don’t worry too much if things don’t go exactly as planned.

You will be the center of attention the entire time anyway, and how you look is much more important.

Guest Blogger Bio

My introduction to bridal hair-styling was founded in my early childhood, ‘Ever since I was 8 years old, I’ve wanted to be a hairdresser’. I would not have dreamt at such a tender age that one day I would be the chosen hairstylist for a Miss Australia finalist and a large handful of A-List Celebrity American musicians who come to Australia.

As an apprentice hairdresser in a very large salon back in 2003, I realized that I was one of only two, in a staff of twenty, who was trusted with arduous bridal styling. Since then, I have gone on to establish my own business, ‘Instyle Hair for Brides’, which is a small, hand-picked team of 10 stylists operating as a mobile hair and makeup service all over Melbourne to better meet the needs of our clients.
