Bad Boys Don’t Make Good Boyfriends

by Melanie A. Smith
(Life Lessons, #2)
Release Date: May 19, 2020
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Medical Romance, bad boy theme

Blurb:

From best-selling author Melanie A. Smith comes the second book in a new series of steamy contemporary medical romance standalone novels about life lessons that break all the rules.

Even when you know better, sometimes it’s simply too tempting…

Hospital work isn’t for the faint of heart. Becca Dillon knows that firsthand, having worked as a medical assistant in the cardiac unit at Rutherford Hospital for longer than she cares to think about. What she does care to think about is having fun, gossip, and … guys. Her favorite of the three. And why stick to one, when you can sample them all?

That’s exactly her plan when a workplace crush on a mysterious bad-boy orderly unexpectedly takes a very steamy turn. But Vincent DeMarco turns out to be nothing like she expected, and before she knows it, she’s falling hard and fast. She wants him in ways she’s never wanted anyone before, but there’s something he’s keeping from her. Something that’s holding him back. And Becca is going to find out what.

Even though she knows that bad boys don’t make good boyfriends, he seems like he might be so much more. Will her quest unlock the truth behind who he really is? Or will it end their relationship for good? Either way, ready or not, Becca’s world is about to change.

PRAISE FOR BAD BOYS DON’T MAKE GOOD BOYFRIENDS

“Wow! Melanie, you blew me away with this one. I loved Becca. That girl stole my heart. She was feisty & funny with a heart of pure gold. As for Vincent, he had me swooning all over the damn place. I loved the connection they had, all the pushes & pulls. I have to say, the last 20% had me all torn up (in a good way). Such a good twist & a fabulous ending. Can I request a Becca & Vincent novella? I need to know what their new life is like after that ending. ” – Nikki J. (Goodreads)

This is the most romantic of Smith’s books so far. That doesn’t mean it’s not steamy (wowza) or that it’s lacking in (felonious!) girl drama or fierce friendships (I want in that #girlgang.). Vincent is gold, wrapped in muscles and and tats. Becca is scared, but hides it with sex and sass. Inside, they both have so much to give. I felt so many gut clenches from the words and connection and fire they share. It’s a quick read but has deep feelings and SIZZLIN’ chemistry. This will be added to my comfort reads shelf, for sure. Who better to soothe your heart (and maybe other things) than a Bad Boy? Another must-own. – Erin Knuth (Goodreads)

The author makes sure that you are right there with her words, feeling EVERYTHING. Vincent is the best type of brooding man, and underneath all that brooding there is a gooey center that you can’t wait to dip yourself into. Becca is a bad-ass, independent, take no shit leading lady. I LOVED HER and her fierce attitude. She goes toe-to-toe with anyone that dares to challenge her. And that makes for some explosive scenes with Vincent. I also really enjoyed the continuation of Becca and Sasha’s friendship from Never Date a Doctor. Honestly, this author gets better and better with each story. I don’t know how that is possible because her first ever book was nothing short of amazing, but Melanie has a way of drawing you in, pulling at your heartstrings and leaving you sitting on the edge of your seat with each and every page turned. I’m already impatient for the next book!– L. Powell (Goodreads)

Once again, Melanie A Smith did not disappoint. This book takes hold of you as the characters try and work on their emotions. Becca is a strong women but this bad boy is her kryptonite. The chemistry between Becca and Vincent is perfect. The drama – I did not see that coming. I’m not normally a fan of bad boy books but this book was a five star read for me as I could not put this book down. I cannot wait to see who the next story is about. Loved it! – Louise (Goodreads)

Wow! This book was a huge surprise. Not what I was expecting that is for sure. This book had such a deep and meaningful story that you don’t see that often. Overall this book was a very intense read. The characters are wonderful and easily relatable. The story line is one that is more common in real life than people realize. This steady paced read has an eclectic mix of romance, snarky wit and craziness. It is definitely a page turner.

The main characters have an amazing chemistry and are drawn together like two pieces of a puzzle. Becca is fun loving and speaks her mind. Vincent is your strong silent type. The bad boy whom you don’t take home to momma….or do you? If you like romance and want it to have a well laid out and meaningful story, then this book is all you. So pick up yours today.– Patty (Goodreads)

‘It almost makes me laugh that he thinks he’s the one with the baggage. This guy has no idea what he’s gotten himself into.’ — Becca

That’s one of my favorite lines from this sexy, romantic new novel by Melanie A. Smith. Becca and Vincent both have baggage from their past that has convinced them that they can’t have true romance in their lives. They’ve contented themselves with clubbing and hook-ups, but that changes when they run into each other. Their intimate feelings can’t be denied, and they venture into new, scary territory together. What I love about this book is how well-drawn the characters are. We really get to know them and understand why it’s so hard for them to admit that this is more than a fling and that they need to risk their emotions to be together. This is one of the best of Melanie’s books so far.– Dana Terry (Goodreads)

Nice! ♥♥♥ I can just imagine this is quite a tale!😉

(Rapid knock on the studio door.)

(Marie frowns.) Who could that be? I’m not expecting a package or anything.

(Footsteps approaching.)

Oh, my! Wow, I didn’t know you were coming…

No excerpt? No problem! This is even better, readers. We have the author, Melanie A. Smith, who just dropped in for a quick visit. Let’s give her a warm welcome! 😀

It’s great to have you here, Melanie. Please come and sit down for a sec.

Author Melanie A. Smith:  Hi, Marie! Thanks for letting me stop by.

Marie:  Of course, it’s my pleasure! So nice to meet you, by the way!

(Starts to shake hands with her guest, then laughs.)

Oops, that was out of habit. Almost forgot about social distancing while I’m in lockdown. Bad Marie! 😮

Marie:  Damn, I left my hazmat suit at the cleaner’s and it’s not done yet…

All right, I’m just over here. Really, I don’t think you have cooties or anything. 😀

Melanie:  (Smiles.) Great to meet you too.

Marie:  Thanks!

Well, I hope you don’t mind if I ask you a few questions while you’re here?

Melanie:  Sure, I’d love that! 🙂

Marie:  Awesome!

So, can you tell us a little about your background? When did your first book come out and where can we get it?

Melanie:  I’ve been writing since I was six, though I actually ended up going to college for engineering, at which point I stopped doing creative writing for a while. A career in aerospace after college kept me busy, until I got married (2010) and had my son (2014) and ended up as a stay-at-home mom, which is not something I’d ever pictured myself doing. I picked up real estate investing to keep me busy, but still felt like something was missing.

In January 2018, I remembered my youthful goal to write a novel and decided it was as good a time as any to give it a go. In the thirty days that followed, a full-length romantic suspense novel poured out of me. I was hooked. While I was writing and polishing what would be the other books in that series, I released my first book, The Safeguarded Heart in July 2018. It’s now permafree on all major ebook retailers!

Marie: Woo hoo, that’s great! 😀

So, a lot of readers love origin stories. What exactly inspired you to start writing?

Melanie:  The first thing I ever remember writing was a small hand-made picture book when I was six years old. It was all about how I wanted to “make sex” with my handsome PE teacher, Mr. Brown. I kid you not. I doubt I even knew what sex was at that age, but I still remember writing that to this day. I think the reaction I got from my mom spurred me to keep writing things that grabbed people’s attention.

Marie:  (Chuckles.) Awkward! But I made my fair share of blunders then, too. 😉

How did you get into writing romance?

Melanie:  Well, I guess you could call that first story I wrote romance? (Laughs.) I actually don’t remember writing anything else like that until high school, when I attempted my first fantasy novel that was laced with sex (which I still knew nothing about). But it seems to be a theme with me for some reason, because I didn’t plan to write romance, but when I got back around to sitting down to write that novel, that’s just what came out.

It’s especially funny because before that I didn’t actually read much romance (though I certainly do now!).

Marie:  Of course!

What, do you feel, sets Bad Boys Don’t Make Good Boyfriends apart from other books in the genre?

Melanie:  Being an indie author comes with the distinct benefit of not having to follow a formula. That’s not to say traditionally published romances aren’t good, they just tend to follow certain themes or trends. And I get to write whatever pops into my head. Aside from that, I spend a LOT of time making dimensional characters and thinking through their interactions and decisions so that things play out in a way that’s true to the worlds I create. This was especially the case with Becca and Vincent for some reason. Their banter, their chemistry just felt so real to me as I was writing it. I think that authenticity and connection really shines through.

(Phone rings.)

😥

Oh, no, it looks like our guest had to take a personal call outside. I guess I’ll have to chat with her via email when I get a chance. A safer option for sure, at least in these uncertain times! 😕

But in the meantime, she’s given me permission to inform you of a great prize. Let’s find out the details, shall we?
